2008 COMIC CON - DUBLIN

2008 Con now over....

Thanks to John and Dave and all involved, for a well represented weekend - some great artists, Adi Granov and Liam Sharp to name a couple, so it was fantastic to meet them and get a chance to observe them and see some of their layouts too.  The workshops and panels were varied and relevant so nice work!!

We went and enjoyed the weekend, we made some sales and hope to have issue 2 of our Longstone Comics Anthology out in early 2009.  Our other items for sale, a book of short stories by Peter Loftus and the independent comic 'Found', by Deirdre de Barra were really well received.

We hope to update our website soon to include an option for purchasing our comics and short stories online at a reasonable price.

[The Con was held on 22nd and 23rd November 2008 in The Park Inn, Smithfield.  Great venue but a little off the beaten track and not much advertising on the way to it.  Here are the names that attended, so keep an eye on facebook and myspace for next years details.  Dan Slott (writer of She Hulk, the Amazing Spider-Man), Adi Granov (Artist Iron Man), Olivier Copiel (Artist Thor), Jonathan Hickman (Writer Artist The Nightly News, Pax Romana, Red Mass For Mars) Tommy Lee Edwards (Artist Marvel 1985), Michael Lark (Artist Dardevil, Gotham Central), Paul Cornell (Writer Captain Britain And MI:13, Doctor Who), CB Cebulski (Writer Marvel Fairy Tales, X-Men Divided We Stand, Wonderlost, Drain), Liam Sharp (Artist Gears Of War, Lord Havok And The Extremists, Testament), Esad Ribic (Artist Silver Surfer Requiem, Loki) Matt Hollingsworth (Colourist Eternals, Daredevil, Death The High Cost Of Living), Nick Roche (Artist Transformers, Transformers Maximum Dinobots), Stephen Mooney (Artist Angel, The Mummy), Stephen Thompson (Artist Star Trek The New Frontier, Presidential Material John McCain). 24 HOUR COMICS

18th OCTOBER 2008

24hr comic  - Cliodhna Lyons is one of the key organizers of the event so BIG THANK YOU for a fun day!!

Well this years 24hr comic was really well attended and the talent at it was really amazing!  Lots and lots of comic heads out there with a wide variety of styles and influences...nice to see that Ireland is healthy with such talent!  2 of the group at Longstone managed to get in for the event, and only one survived!!  Hats off to Deirdre who stuck it out for the FULL 24 hours....not sure how she did it but she did!

The comics produced from the on-the-spot affair that is the 24hr comic event, will be put up on their website.  We'll put our contribution up in the coming week once the sleep is back in order!

24 HR COMICS!!! - check out the fantastic and nutty work from last year.

2d FESTIVAL

2D FESTIVAL - please visit www.2dfestival.com for more info.

THANK YOU DAVID!

The 2d Fesitval was brilliant and really well organised.  If you didn't get a chance to go it is something to pencil in for next year.  For our first time there it was daunting but worked out great.  The comic was seriously well produced and all credit for that side of it goes to Gavin.  The response to it was positive and encouraging, considering it was a piece produced within a 6 week period...tough but we did it.  Hilary put in a monster effort on the artwork and managed to grasp the basics in corel painter x in the process while Stephen did enormous work promoting it leading up to the event.  Deirdre produced a great poster to introduce the Society project, and overall the team did work extremely hard to put some great art out there for the first time.

We got to see some great artists in action and that in itself was very inspiring while meeting a new bunch of great people along the way made it an event to definitely remember!

Moving forward  expect to see some independent work from Stephen in the near future as he has now moved from the Long Stone team and we wish him every success in his new venture.  It was lovely to be part of the introduction of his work through the festival and no doubt we will see him at future events and look forward to it.

In the meantime visit the links further down this page - more will be added as we find them...for some of the artists that were at the festival and that we thought rocked!
